1963 MG MIDGET

This MG Midget represents a blend of careful restoration and performance enhancements. Equipped with a later 1,275cc engine boasting a fast road cam, high lift rockers, and a meticulously tuned rolling road setup, it delivers a spirited 83bhp output. Adorned with chrome wire wheels and featuring distinctive round arches, this compact yet sporty Midget is primed for exhilarating drives.
This MG Midget Mark 1 is a factory-original right-hand-drive (RHD) model intended for the domestic market, manufactured during the 26th April to the 1st May 1963.
It was subsequently dispatched to a MG dealership in the UK on the 1st May, 1963.
The car was originally finished in Ice Blue exterior paint, complemented by a Blue interior trim and Dark Blue Hood. It came equipped with factory-fitted Heater, Blue Tonneau Cover, Toughened Glass Windscreen and a Miles-per-hour speedometer.
This MG Midget MK1 still proudly displays its original factory-issued registration plate, bearing the distinctive identifier 964 KPX.
Included within the car's history file is a British Motor Museum Heritage Certificate, affirming the aforementioned details. This certificate serves as a tangible validation of the vehicle's provenance.
Originally registered in June 1963, this vehicle has seen just six owners throughout its lifespan, as documented in the V5C. The restoration journey began in 1990 under the ownership of Mr. James of Newport, where the body underwent a comprehensive overhaul at the MG Centre Cardiff, including the installation of new wings, sills, door shells, and a striking repaint in black. The transition to the round wheelarch style, characteristic of pre-1972 Midgets, likely occurred during this restoration phase. Subsequent maintenance in 1995, at approximately 91,000 miles, saw the addition of a new duck hood, steering rack, track rod ends, and shock absorbers, ensuring continued performance and aesthetic appeal.
Under the stewardship of Mr. Reynolds of Pontypool from 2000 to 2021, this Midget enjoyed light usage, as evidenced by its modest mileage accumulation of around 2,000 miles over 22 years. Notably, it underwent significant enhancements in 2022, including carburetor overhauls, installation of a new sports coil, Powerspark electronic distributor, performance HT leads, and fresh plugs, oil, and filter. Following meticulous tuning by Nutts Performance of Pontypool, dyno sheets confirm the engine's elevated power output of 83bhp, a notable increase from the standard 65bhp configuration.
With its tax and MOT exemption, this Midget recently sailed through an MOT inspection on 17th January, 2024. Enhanced by chrome wire wheels, it promises an exhilarating driving experience while retaining its original (transferable) Sussex-issue registration number, 964 KPX.
