Restored example with useful upgrades including 1500 engine and Ford Type-9 5-speed gearbox.

Dating from August 1966, this Triumph Spitfire MkII looks rather smart as presented and really rather sporting having been de-bumpered with only over-riders fitted and sitting on a set of Minilite-style 13 inch alloy wheels shod with decent Toyo tyres.

Under the bonnet we find the 1493cc four-cylinder engine found in the later model 1500 (1974 – 1980) which produced 71hp and 82lb/ft of torque in standard guise.  This example is understood to have been breathed on, with refurbished twin HS4 SU carbs and fitment of a five-speed Ford Type-9 gearbox to improve performance.

The interior has been retrimmed with green piping to the black seats, black carpets and door cards, polished gearknob and dash section with body-colour dash front and door tops.

The history file includes the V5C revealing six former keepers up till the last onwer who enjoyed the car for the past few years, with one previous owner keeping the car from 1985-2013.  In addition, we also note inclusion of a few sundry bills for new rear shocks in August 2023, new water pump in may 2023, a Delco high energy ignition kit and ‘points distributor tachometer drive powerspark’ in March 2022, bill for stripping and rebuilding carb (undated) and supply of refurbished HS4 carbs in February 2023.

It is not known when the car was overhauled or by whom but HPI/Experian records a colour change from white to green in 2014.

The paintwork is excellent with just a few minor blemishes and small chips, all consistent with a car of this age and an older restoration.

JVH 353D is a very appealing sports car, thats starts promptly and runs well with good oil pressure, the car looks to want for nothing with but a few minor cosmetic blemishes to the paint. Usefully uprated for modern road conditions, there is much to like about this classic sports car that comes at a very reasonable price.
