Genuine factory V8 with manual overdrive; restored over the last five years with many thousands spent; huge history file; Heritage Certificate

Supplied new by Ware Garages Ltd of Hertfordshire in January 1974, this superb factory V8 comes to us finished in

Mallard Green, and fitted with Dunlop polished face wheels that are still in lovely condition after their refurbishment in 2020.

​

Inside we find a pretty, original looking interior with blue cloth seats supplemented with leather headrests, grey carpet, and black dash, all presenting in great order. The Webasto sunroof was replaced by The Trimming Centre, East Sussex in February 2020, it slides freely and the roof lining looks to be in good condition too.

​

Under the bonnet we find the trusty Rover 3.5 V8 putting its 137bhp and 193lb/ft to the rear wheels via four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Although it is free to tax and MOT exempt, an MOT test was carried out in April of this year showing no advisories and according to the odometer the car has travelled fewer than 400 miles since.

In the history file we find stacks of invoices for the past five years, during which time it appears the car underwent a full overhaul, with invoices for new front and rear chrome bumpers in 2019, a full axle rebuild by ARRC in 2020 plus much, much more, the total spend could easily be into the tens of thousands.

On the Heritage Certificate we can see that this MG would have left the factory in July 1973, finished in Harvest Gold with the same Navy blue interior that it has now, with cast alloy wheels and factory fitted overdrive.

This is a wonderful example of a factory V8 MG, that has clearly had much expenditure put its way in recent years. A rare model, being one of only 2,591 made between 1973 and 1976, it is ready to use and enjoy.

Bodywork
Very bright and tidy with no areas of concern, panel fit is good and the doors shut nicley.

Mechanical
Extensive mechanical overhaul completed in recent years, including a gearbox rebuild, front suspension overhaul and steering rack. The oil pressure is excellent and it warms up nicely, pulling well from cold.
 

Exterior
The paintwork is excellent with just a few minor blemishes and small chips, all consistent with a car of this age and an older restoration, the chrome is all good with everything being period correct, all of the electrical equipment functions well.
We believe that the paint colour was changed from Harvest Gold to Mallard Green in September 1982.
 

Interior
In an attractive navy finish, the seat covers are excellent with clean carpets and a dashboard that is in good shape with clean instruments, everything works including the interior light!​
