1962 Triumph TR4 – The Final Push

After patiently waiting its turn, one of our most exciting Triumph projects has finally made it into the workshop — and we’re now making the final push to get it finished.

Earlier this year, we purchased this exceptionally early 1962 Triumph TR4, complete with the highly desirable Surrey Top. The plan was always to complete the remaining restoration work and, ultimately, get this very special car back where it belongs: on the road.

Unfortunately, with a busy workshop and plenty of other projects competing for attention, the TR4 has had to wait a little longer than we would have liked.

That wait is now over.

From Texas to the UK

Originally sold and driven in Texas, the TR4 had been off the road since 1977 before making its way back to the UK in 2021.

By the time it arrived here, a huge amount of work had already been undertaken. Its previous owner embarked on a comprehensive nut-and-bolt restoration, investing around £30,000 in the car — excluding his own considerable time and labour.

The restoration has covered virtually every major area of the car, including the chassis and bodywork, suspension, brakes, engine, gearbox, wiring and interior.

It’s a project that has already come a very long way.

The final stages

With the TR4 now in our workshop, we’ve started a concentrated push to complete the remaining work and bring everything together.

There are still plenty of jobs to tackle, but the foundations are there. What we have is an incredibly solid and well-restored early TR4, finished in its striking Signal Red, just waiting for those final details to be completed.

For us, this is always one of the most rewarding stages of a restoration — when a collection of individual components and unfinished jobs finally starts to become a complete car again.

And we can’t wait to see this one come together.

Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll be sharing plenty more photographs and updates as work progresses, so keep an eye out for the next instalment.

The final push is underway.
