Austin Healey 3000 MkIIA Returns to The Forge Following Extensive Improvements

The Forge is delighted to once again offer this outstanding Austin Healey 3000 MkIIA Convertible, a car we previously supplied and which has since benefited from further investment to enhance its usability and driving enjoyment. 

During early 2026, approximately £7,000 was spent on carefully selected upgrades, including the installation of an EasySteer electric power steering system, a rear disc brake conversion, and the refurbishment of its wire wheels. These improvements complement an already impressive restoration and make this Big Healey an even more rewarding car to drive. 

Originally built as a left-hand-drive export model, the Healey left the factory in July 1962 finished in Healey Blue with a matching Blue interior and Blue hood. It was dispatched to Continental Cars of St. Louis, Missouri, USA, and was equipped from new with desirable factory options including wire wheels, overdrive, heater, adjustable steering column, laminated windscreen, and Roadspeed tyres. 

Between 2020 and 2022, the car underwent a comprehensive restoration, receiving extensive mechanical and cosmetic attention. Key works included a top-end engine rebuild, new carburettors, stainless steel exhaust system, replacement steering box, poly-bushed suspension, complete interior retrim, and a new convertible hood. The recent 2026 upgrades further enhance the car's appeal, bringing modern usability without compromising its classic character. 

Visually, the Healey presents exceptionally well. The deep red paintwork retains a rich finish, complemented by excellent brightwork, straight panel fit, and a body-coloured underside that reflects the quality of the restoration throughout. 

On the road, this MkIIA delivers exactly the experience enthusiasts expect from a well-sorted Big Healey. The engine is strong and responsive, maintaining excellent oil pressure, while the gearbox offers smooth operation and precise synchromesh engagement. The overdrive functions correctly, and the combination of electric power steering and upgraded braking provides increased confidence behind the wheel, particularly on longer journeys.
