Classic car takes to the Pembrokeshire roads for charity

Long-time Forge Press friend Richard has been in touch with another update on RMB 900H and her latest adventures around Pembrokeshire.

The classic car has not been out quite as much as Richard would have liked this summer.

RMB 900H did, however, make an appearance at Folly Farm in August, joining fellow members of the Pembrokeshire Classic Car Club to display their classic cars at the popular local attraction.

More recently, she took part in a 45-mile charity car run in aid of Paul Sartori Hospice at Home, travelling from Withybush Aerodrome to St Davids, Fishguard and finally Dyfed Shire Horse Farm at Eglwyswrw. Richard estimates that close to 300 cars took part.

During the run, Richard stopped at Lower Town Fishguard for a photograph with the harbour in the background — a location with a fascinating connection to Welsh cinema history.

The harbour was used as the setting for the fictional village of Llareggub in the 1972 film adaptation of Dylan Thomas's Under Milk Wood, which starred Richard Burton, Elizabeth Taylor, Peter O'Toole and Sian Phillips. Local residents also featured as extras.

Richard recently discovered just how memorable the experience had been for one local resident. While chatting to a fellow cyclist at the harbour, he mentioned the film, only to be told:

“I know, I'm in the film. I was one of the children in the sweet shop!”

A fitting stop on a charity run — combining classic cars, spectacular Pembrokeshire scenery and a little piece of Welsh film history.
