The Forge is delighted to announce the arrival of a true British motoring icon – a 1971 Triumph TR6 PI – freshly restored, mechanically sorted, and ready to turn heads once again.

This particular car is no ordinary TR6. It is a genuine UK-supplied CP-series chassis model producing 150bhp, making it one of the most desirable variants in the TR6 lineage. First built on 11th August 1971 and dispatched later that month to Triumph dealer Stanbourne Motor Company Ltd in Bournemouth, it was originally finished in New White with a black interior and hood. Registered as XEL 725K, the car still proudly wears its original number plate more than five decades on.

Now resplendent in Sapphire Blue following a £10,000 respray, the car is complemented by a retrimmed cream nappa leather interior with walnut veneer detailing. Invoices document more than £50,000 of investment across its lifetime, with its most recent restoration entrusted to respected Sheffield restorer Nigel Falkiner.

The attention to detail continues throughout. Period-correct touches such as TR6 decals, Union Jack quarter badges, British Leyland wing badges and chrome bullet-style mirrors are joined by discreet upgrades including LED lighting for modern-day usability. Original 16-inch steel wheels with chrome rims, fitted with Dunlop Sport Bluresponse tyres, complete the authentic yet usable look.

Inside, the TR6 offers surprising comfort and refinement. The cream nappa leather MX5 seats – heated and six-way adjustable, believed to have been retrimmed by a Rolls-Royce interior specialist – are as practical as they are luxurious. Cream carpets, matching door cards, a walnut dashboard and door cappings set the tone, finished with a wooden Triumph-branded steering wheel and gear knob. Modern conveniences have been tastefully integrated, including a Pioneer Bluetooth head unit, Sony speakers and discreet USB charging ports.

Beneath the bonnet, the 2.5-litre Bosch fuel-injected engine delivers the full 150bhp with confidence. Freshly serviced and paired with a Yuasa 5000 battery, it starts cleanly from cold – a rare quality in TR6s of this era – and drives with impressive oil pressure, smooth overdrive engagement and slick gear changes. With just over 96,000 miles recorded, it feels lively, robust and spirited, exactly as a well-prepared TR6 should.

This striking example last changed hands in April 2025 for £27,450 and is now proudly available to view at The Forge.
