Triumph GT6 Mk3 Receives Fresh Chrome Bumpers

A striking 1974 Triumph GT6 Mk3 has received the finishing touch to its latest workshop visit at The Forge, with a brand-new set of chrome front and rear bumpers now fitted.

Finished in its distinctive Mimosa Yellow paintwork and sitting on black Minilite-style wheels, the GT6 already cuts a classic figure. The new brightwork adds an extra touch of period-correct style, complementing the car's clean lines and original interior.

The GT6 has also benefited from a substantial programme of recommissioning work earlier this year, with almost £10,000 spent on mechanical and maintenance work at Malton Coachworks during April and May.

The work included attention to the cooling, fuel, braking and ignition systems, as well as the twin carburettors, gearbox, differential, steering and suspension. The car also received new rear driveshaft bushes and shock absorbers, together with a new speedometer cable and various seals, belts and other components.

The result is a GT6 that not only presents extremely well but has also been thoroughly prepared for enjoyable road use.

Originally built as a right-hand-drive home-market GT6 Mk3, the car was completed in August 1973 and supplied to Triumph dealer Julians Limited in Reading later that year. Its British Motor Museum Heritage Certificate confirms the original Mimosa Yellow finish and black cord interior, along with factory-fitted overdrive.

Today, the GT6 retains much of the character that made these compact six-cylinder sports cars so distinctive. The combination of its long bonnet, fastback profile, vibrant yellow paintwork, black wheels and now gleaming chrome bumpers makes it particularly eye-catching.

With its recent recommissioning complete and the new bumpers fitted, this classic Triumph is looking very much the part at The Forge.
