We are delighted to offer this outstanding Daimler Dart, a particularly well-equipped and capable example that is exceptionally suited to long-distance touring. JFO 263 is a matching-numbers car, retains its original Ivory and Brown colour combination and benefits from a superb range of desirable upgrades, including overdrive, rack-and-pinion steering and B-spec chassis modifications.
Manufactured on 3rd May 1960 and supplied new in the UK by Mantle and Boarland, the Dart left the factory finished in Ivory with Brown trim and has retained this original colour combination. The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate confirms its UK manufacture and original specification, with a manufacturer's statement of build also included within the history file.
The car has been comprehensively developed and maintained, with substantial expenditure invested in both its mechanical condition and cosmetics. The upgrades include rack-and-pinion steering, an overdrive unit, track rod ends, a reconditioned radiator, new half-shaft seals, poly-bushed suspension, a reconditioned water pump, new distributor, exhaust manifold, new piston rings, exhaust and inlet valve guides, gearbox seals, differential pinion oil seal, clutch slave and master cylinders and a new fuel pump.
Further work has included an extensive professional repaint in March 2015, together with a full retrim of the upholstery and a new hood in 2010. More recently, the car has benefited from new front and rear brake pads and discs, rear wheel bearings and a brand-new windscreen.
The result is a Dart that is genuinely exceptional to drive. The rack-and-pinion steering provides a significant improvement in precision and response, while the overdrive transforms the car into an extremely capable high-speed tourer. The engine runs superbly, maintains excellent oil pressure and starts cleanly without the smoking often associated with these Daimler V8 engines. The gearbox is smooth, robust and effortless to operate, while the combination of responsive performance, excellent handling and effective braking makes this an enormously enjoyable car on the open road.
JFO 263 also presents beautifully. The paintwork has an excellent finish with no crazing, the bodywork is exceptionally well presented with impressive panel gaps and the underside benefits from a first-class chassis. The chrome is outstanding, the upholstery has been beautifully retrimmed and the mohair hood and matching cover are in excellent condition. The engine bay is highly detailed and presents to an exceptional standard.
With its matching-numbers status, original colour combination, desirable mechanical upgrades and extensive history of careful maintenance and improvement, JFO 263 represents a particularly special Daimler Dart. It combines the character and elegance of the Dart with the usability, performance and touring ability to make it an exceptional proposition for both enjoyable road use and serious long-distance touring.
JFO 263 is now available through The Forge and will be prepared to our usual exacting standards prior to delivery.
