We are delighted to offer this exceptional early home-market Austin-Healey 3000 MKII BT7, a rare and highly desirable 2+2 example with an outstanding history file and an extraordinary level of recent mechanical investment.

The BT7 2+2 was produced in relatively limited numbers, with fewer than 11,000 examples built in total. While the Austin-Healey 3000 proved hugely successful overseas, particularly in America, this particular car was supplied new to the UK and represents a rare opportunity to acquire an original home-market example.

Heritage documentation confirms that 899 DYM was built in February 1962 and supplied new by the renowned Car Mart of London. It was sold in June 1962 to its first owner in Barnet and subsequently remained in the London area before moving to Sevenoaks and then Worcestershire, where it remained until 2022.

Finished in the particularly attractive combination of Florida Green over Cream, the car has superb period character and presence. It is also a rather unusual piece of Austin-Healey memorabilia, having been selected as the subject of an Oxford Diecast 1/76 scale model carrying the same registration number. A new boxed example of the model is included with the car.

The real highlight, however, is the extent of recent mechanical investment. Purchased three years ago for £35,000, the car was then entrusted to a highly respected Austin-Healey specialist for a comprehensive mechanical rebuild. The history file contains invoices totalling an extraordinary £36,357.13 for this work.

The engine has been thoroughly rebuilt, with +60 pistons, a chemically cleaned engine block and reground +30 big-end and main bearings. A new clutch was fitted, while the gearbox and overdrive were rebuilt. The braking system was overhauled and a heavy-duty starter motor installed, alongside a big-bore manifold and side-exit exhaust system.

Further work has been carried out to the suspension and numerous other mechanical components, with the overall expenditure representing an exceptional level of commitment to bringing the car to a very high standard.

Following this extensive rebuild, the Austin-Healey has covered just 400 miles, meaning it is effectively still running in. It drives with the benefit of an exceptionally fresh mechanical package and represents a superb opportunity for its next owner to enjoy the car while knowing that an enormous amount of work has already been undertaken.

As part of our preparation for sale, we are arranging for the exterior of the car to be freshly painted, ensuring it is presented to the standard expected of a car of this calibre.

With its rare home-market specification, desirable Florida Green and Cream colour combination, strong provenance and more than £36,000 of recent mechanical expenditure, 899 DYM represents an outstanding opportunity to acquire an early Austin-Healey 3000 MKII BT7.

A comprehensively rebuilt and highly usable example, this is a car that deserves to be driven and enjoyed.

At The Forge Prees, we specialise in classic, vintage and enthusiast vehicles. Every vehicle we offer is unique, with its own history, character and, inevitably, its own imperfections.
