Due to arrive shortly at The Forge Prees is one of those very special classic cars that will be difficult to repeat. Restored to an exceptional standard during 2013–2014, this remarkable Daimler combines beautifully preserved originality with outstanding provenance and just 75,000 miles from new. Accompanying the car is an extensive history file dating back to day one, including its original service book, MOT certificates from 1974 onwards, buff logbooks, factory handbooks and detailed maintenance records throughout its life.

First registered on the 3rd September 1964, the Daimler still retains its original colour scheme along with wonderfully aged original Blue leather upholstery, giving the car an authenticity that is rarely found today. Also accompanying the car are its original Manufacturer’s Warranty booklet, Dagenite Battery Guarantee Card, Motor Fuel Rations Book and Periodic Maintenance Voucher booklet. Early servicing was carried out by Imperial Motors of Cheltenham and later Walker & Ward Ltd, with stamped entries recording careful maintenance at remarkably low mileages.

From the late 1960s through to the early 1980s, the Daimler’s servicing, maintenance and repairs were consistently documented, creating an impressively detailed history archive. The car then spent several years off the road before re-emerging with further MOT records and invoices continuing to support its wonderfully well-preserved history.

In 2013, a comprehensive fifteen-month restoration programme began, fully supported by photographic records and invoices. The bodyshell was stripped to bare metal and restored with extensive structural and cosmetic work undertaken throughout, including repairs to cross members, wheel arches, doors and rear quarters. The underside was fully refinished and protected, while careful preparation and panel fit resulted in the superbly straight and beautifully presented car seen today.

The interior was sympathetically refreshed whilst retaining as much originality as possible. The original leather upholstery was carefully cleaned and preserved, complemented by new carpets, seals and trim work, while the woodwork was refinished to a very high standard.

Mechanically, the Daimler benefitted from a comprehensive rebuild and overhaul. The V8 engine was fully stripped and rebuilt, the automatic gearbox overhauled and the braking, suspension, cooling and steering systems all carefully refurbished or upgraded where appropriate. The result is a car that drives every bit as well as it presents, offering smooth performance, light steering and refined road manners.

Since completion, the Daimler has covered just over 5,000 miles and remains in outstanding condition throughout. The paintwork, engine bay, underside and interior all present beautifully, while the extensive history and restoration file further enhance what is already a very special example.

Opportunities to acquire a Daimler V8 of this calibre, with such provenance, originality and restoration quality, are increasingly rare.

Further details will be provided once the car arrives with us at The Forge Prees.

A Note for Prospective Owners:
As with virtually all classic cars of this period, minor oil seepage from seals and gaskets should be expected due to the vehicle’s age, together with the traditional engineering methods and materials used in its original manufacture. When not excessive, this is considered entirely normal for vehicles of this era and forms part of the character and ownership experience associated with traditional classic motoring.

At The Forge Prees, we supply with every classic car a bespoke drip tray for placement beneath the vehicle whilst in storage, helping to neatly capture and contain any minor seepage when the car is not in use.
