We are delighted to offer this charming 1964 Triumph TR4, a highly original UK-supplied right-hand-drive example presented in its desirable factory specification.

Manufactured on 17th August 1964, this TR4 was dispatched on 26th August 1964 to Triumph dealer Lambs Limited of Woodford Green, Essex. Finished from new in Signal Red with a black interior, the car was exceptionally well specified at the factory with options including a heater, sun visors, chrome-plated 60-spoke wire wheels, 165 x 15 Dunlop SP tyres, Surrey Top with hard top, occasional rear seat and windscreen washers. Pleasingly, it still retains its original registration number, FOO 700B.

Today, the car presents beautifully and remains faithful to its original specification. The Signal Red paintwork retains shine, polishing up very well with only minor age-related imperfections commensurate with careful use. The chrome brightwork front and rear is in very good order with an attractive light patina throughout. The freshly refurbished and chrome powder-coated 60-spoke wire wheels are fitted with Continental GT22 165/80/R15 tyres, all showing excellent tread depth and secured with chrome two-eared spinners.

The factory Surrey Top and hard top are finished in body colour and complemented by a white vinyl headlining. The hard top fits well overall, although, as is common with these cars, there is slight gapping around the upper window edges when fully wound up. A canvas soft top with its mounting frame is also included with the car.

Inside, the cabin is wonderfully period in feel and inviting. Black carpets complement the original black leather seats finished with contrasting red piping, matching the door cards beautifully. The original painted red dashboard remains in place and houses the full set of period instruments. Additional features include a 15-inch three-spoke steering wheel, Sony radio and speakers, inertia seat belts and a Triumph leather gear knob.

Under the bonnet, the engine bay is clean and nicely presented. Sensible upgrades have been carried out to improve usability and reliability, including a narrow fan belt conversion, electric cooling fan, alternator conversion and K&N air filters. The car also benefits from a stainless steel exhaust system.

Structurally, the TR4 is strong, with both body and chassis presenting in good order. The chassis has recently been cleaned and freshly undersealed.

Mechanically, the car performs exactly as a good TR4 should. It starts eagerly from cold, maintains excellent oil pressure and pulls strongly through the gears. The gearbox shifts smoothly, the overdrive operates correctly and the car feels lively and robust on the road, accompanied by the unmistakable soundtrack of the Triumph four-cylinder engine.

Prior to sale, the car will be independently inspected, serviced, MOT tested, fully valeted and detailed, and supplied with a 3-month Autoguard warranty.

A Note for Prospective Owners:
As with virtually all classic cars of this period, minor oil seepage from seals and gaskets should be expected due to the vehicle’s age, together with the traditional engineering methods and materials used in its original manufacture. When not excessive, this is considered entirely normal for vehicles of this era and forms part of the character and ownership experience associated with traditional classic motoring.

At The Forge Prees, we supply with every classic car a bespoke drip tray for placement beneath the vehicle whilst in storage, helping to neatly capture and contain any minor seepage when the car is not in use.
