Finished in Signal Red with beige leather upholstery, red carpets and wire wheels, this is a particularly well-presented Triumph TR4 that has clearly benefited from a thorough and carefully considered restoration.

The car was purchased in stripped condition, essentially as a rolling chassis, and its restoration took six years to complete. Much of the work was carried out by the owner himself, an experienced motor engineer, with the paintwork and interior trimming entrusted to specialists. The result is a car that reflects considerable time, knowledge and attention to detail, rather than simply a cosmetic refresh.

The engine was stripped and rebuilt with Powermax pistons, liners and shells, while the cylinder head was converted for unleaded fuel. The interior has also been retrimmed in leather, and the finished specification is complemented by a full set of wire wheels, a boot rack and the desirable Surrey top. It is an attractive and well-resolved example, with a specification that suits the character of the TR4.

The accompanying history is a particular strength. The file includes invoices and receipts spanning many years, older MOT certificates, spare keys and a substantial collection of photographs documenting the car before, during and after its restoration. There is also a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate confirming its original specification and factory details.

Built in Signal Red and sold new by The Light Car Company Limited of Derby on 1 May 1964, the car retains its original exterior colour, although the factory-fitted black vinyl seats have since been replaced with beige leather. The Heritage Certificate also records wire wheels, overdrive, a heater, a black tonneau cover and sun visors among its original specification.

The car has also enjoyed success at shows and competitions, with a collection of trophies accompanying it. While such accolades are a welcome addition, it is the quality of the restoration, the documented work and the overall presentation that make this TR4 stand out.

A very fine example of the model, restored with considerable commitment and supported by an impressive history file. It offers classic TR4 character in a particularly appealing and well-finished package.
