Returning to The Forge Prees is this very well-presented Triumph TR4A, a strong and highly usable example that comes back to us in superb cosmetic and mechanical condition.
We originally sourced and supplied this car in late summer 2025 to a local retired aircraft engineer and keen classic car enthusiast. During his ownership, the car benefited from significant mechanical improvement, carried out to a very high standard and clearly reflective of his knowledge and attention to detail. A detailed summary of this work is listed below.
Built in 1967 and originally supplied to the US market, the TR4A was imported into the UK in 1990. At that time, it was noted to be a particularly original example, with a clean, rust-free chassis and body that had never required major structural restoration.
Following its arrival in the UK, the car was converted to right-hand drive and recommissioned for regular use. Invoices from the early 1990s document this work, and supporting MOT history confirms that the car has covered limited mileage since.
Maintenance has been consistent over the last three decades, with more recent investment focusing on mechanical reliability and drivability. Notable work prior to our supply included a new clutch and pressure plate, clutch and brake master cylinders, front discs and pads, rear wheel cylinders and shoes, and new dampers front and rear. Between 2022 and 2024, further improvements included upgraded seats, ball joints, track rod ends, a full stainless steel exhaust system, rebuilt front calipers, and a set of Continental tyres.
Today, the TR4A is in excellent mechanical health. The engine performs very well, with strong oil pressure and eager power delivery. The overdrive-equipped gearbox is smooth and positive, and on the road the car feels composed, responsive, and confidence-inspiring. It’s the sort of TR that encourages regular use—ideal for touring, weekend drives, or classic events.
Cosmetically, the car presents extremely well. The paintwork is bright with a deep, even gloss, the body is straight with good panel alignment, and the chrome is in excellent condition. The Surrey top is particularly smart. Inside, the cabin is clean and tidy, retaining plenty of period charm while benefiting from thoughtful comfort upgrades. The engine bay is well detailed, and underneath the car is structurally excellent, with a clean, solid chassis and floor pans.
Overall, this is a very well-sorted Triumph TR4A with a strong mechanical foundation and very presentable cosmetics. It is not a freshly restored car, but one that has been carefully maintained and improved in all the right areas—making it an honest, dependable, and thoroughly enjoyable classic to own and drive.
