We are pleased to offer this fully rebuilt and subtly upgraded MGB Roadster, a UK home-market RHD car finished in its original colours and restored to an exceptional standard. It has been regularly toured since its rebuild and features a number of well-chosen upgrades.
BUP 777G is a genuine RHD home-market example, built between 31 May and 4 June 1968. Originally supplied in British Racing Green with black trim, it was dispatched to Byers Garages Ltd in Sunderland on 6 June 1968 and issued its Durham registration, BUP 777G.
The car has had low ownership and spent the majority of its life in the North of England. In 2006 it was sold requiring full restoration, and the then-owner retained it until 2014. Between 2006 and 2008 the MG underwent a complete nut-and-bolt rebuild carried out to a very high standard, including the purchase of a new Heritage shell. The bodyshell remains in excellent condition, with the underside painted British Racing Green and lightly waxoyled for protection. New wire wheels were fitted, along with a fully renewed interior featuring bespoke leather seats, walnut dash, cream dials, new carpets and door cards, MG overmats, a mohair hood, and new exterior chrome.
Mechanically, the car is equally impressive. The engine was fully rebuilt with an unleaded cylinder head, machined crankshaft, new pistons, bearings, thrust washers, oil pump and timing chain. Further work included new front and rear shock absorbers, track rod ends, link arms, anti-roll bar, rear leaf springs, reconditioned king pin assemblies, polyurethane bushes, drilled brake discs with Green Stuff pads, a high-torque starter motor, stainless steel exhaust, halogen headlights, Kenlowe fan, new wiring loom, and widespread refurbishment or replacement of ancillary items. Various components were shot-blasted and powder-coated, and a Toad alarm with immobiliser and central locking was fitted.
Since the restoration the MG has covered 7,500 miles, 6,000 of which have been completed since 2014. Over £9,000 has been spent in this period to maintain the car to a very high standard. Both cosmetically and mechanically it has been carefully looked after and presented at shows with pride. The engine performs superbly with strong oil pressure, and the car offers a spirited, fast-road feel. The gearbox is smooth, the overdrive operates correctly, and the suspension, steering and brakes are all well set up.
This is a beautifully presented, highly usable MG that has seen minimal mileage since a significant and expensive restoration. The underside and inner arches remain remarkably clean, and the paintwork, body and engine bay are all excellent. BUP 777G is supplied with a comprehensive restoration file, including a photographic record, Heritage Certificate and pre-restoration correspondence from the 1980s.
