1971 Triumph TR6 PI – Genuine UK-Supplied CP Chassis Car (150BHP)

At The Forge, we’re proud to present this wonderfully honest and mechanically sorted Triumph TR6 – a true driver’s classic and one of the most desirable variants, being a genuine 150BHP CP-series chassis car supplied new to the UK market.

Now finished in striking Sapphire Blue and complemented by a beautifully retrimmed cream nappa leather interior with walnut veneer detailing, this TR6 is every inch the head-turner – elegant, purposeful, and unmistakably sporting.

Built on 11th August 1971 and dispatched on 26th August the same year to Triumph dealer Stanbourne Motor Company Ltd in Bournemouth, the car originally left the factory finished in New White with a black interior and hood. Its specification included overdrive, static seatbelts, petrol injection and Dunlop SP Sports tyres. First registered as XEL 725K in Bournemouth, the car still proudly carries its original number plate today.

Over the years, invoices on file record more than £50,000 of investment, in addition to the most recent restoration work carried out by respected Sheffield restorer Nigel Falkiner. The result is a car that presents beautifully throughout.

The Sapphire Blue paintwork is in great condition, and is complemented by a black vinyl hood with zip-out rear window. Brightwork at both the front and rear shines impressively, while period details such as the twin exhaust, TR6 decals, Union Jack quarter badges, British Leyland wing badges, bullet-style wing mirrors, chrome fuel cap, aerial and black-and-silver number plates complete the look. The car rides on original 16-inch steel wheels with chrome rims, now fitted with Dunlop Sport Bluresponse tyres in size 195/65 R15. The glass is also excellent, and the exterior benefits from subtle upgrades including LED lighting for improved visibility.

Inside, the TR6 delights with its fresh presentation and even retains a new-car scent. The cream nappa leather MX5 six-way adjustable seats are both comfortable and stylish, believed to have been retrimmed by a Rolls-Royce interior specialist. Heated front seats – a rare luxury in a classic car – add to the sense of refinement. Cream carpets with black Triumph overmats, matching door cards, a walnut dashboard and door cappings all complete the cabin, while a 15-inch wooden steering wheel and Triumph-branded wooden gear knob provide the finishing touches. Additional features include a black leather lower centre console with cream stitching, a modern Pioneer Bluetooth CD head unit with Sony front speakers, and discreet USB charging ports.

Under the bonnet, the presentation is equally impressive, with a clean and well-detailed engine bay housing the 2.5-litre Bosch fuel-injected engine producing 150bhp. The engine has just been serviced and is paired with a Yuasa 5000 battery. The boot is fully carpeted, fitted with a working boot light, and contains the spare wheel and tyre, jack and hood cover. The underside of the car is finished in body colour and remains exceptionally clean.

Having covered just over 96,000 miles, this TR6 feels confident, lively and eager for the next chapter. It starts effortlessly from cold – a rare quality among fuel-injected TR6s – and delivers strong performance with excellent oil pressure, smooth overdrive engagement and precise gear changes. On the road, it feels robust, responsive and spirited – exactly as a well-prepared TR6 should.

This car last changed hands for £27,450 in April 2025.
