In Preparation – 1972 MG Midget 1275cc Round Wheel Arch

Offered here is a superb 1972 MG Midget 1275cc Round Wheel Arch model, finished in Old English White with black leather upholstery and a matching black hood. This example underwent a full, no-expense-spared restoration in 2015 and remains in excellent condition throughout.

The car is accompanied by a substantial history file containing invoices, bills, and MOT certificates charting its life. Included within is a Heritage Certificate confirming that it originally left the factory in Bronze Yellow with navy blue trim, later refinished in Old English White with black during restoration — a colour combination that suits the car beautifully.

Supplied new to a Mr Brown under the Austin Morris Management Car Plan, the Midget likely began life with an employee who took advantage of the company’s staff discount scheme — a charming piece of provenance that adds to its story. During restoration, a pair of MG Owners Club sport seats were fitted, which remain unmarked to this day, along with a Moto-Lita steering wheel and a smart set of wire wheels. A boot rack completes the quintessentially British sports car look that only an MG can deliver.

The paintwork has held up very well since the restoration, the engine bay presents superbly, and on the road the car performs as well as it looks. The engine and gearbox are strong, oil pressure is excellent, and the overall driving experience is rewarding. The front suspension has been upgraded to accept adjustable telescopic dampers, significantly improving ride and handling, while modernised calipers and discs enhance braking performance and usability in modern traffic.

This MG Midget has clearly been cherished and maintained to a very high standard. It represents a wonderful opportunity to acquire a beautifully restored and well-sorted example of one of Britain’s most iconic small sports cars. We warmly recommend early viewing.
