1974 Triumph Stag Mk2 in Carmine Red

The Triumph Stag, introduced in 1970, was conceived as a luxurious grand tourer that combined refinement, style, and performance. Designed by the celebrated Giovanni Michelotti, it featured elegant proportions, a graceful profile, and the now-iconic T-shaped roll bar that set it apart from its contemporaries. Power came from Triumph’s own 3.0-litre V8, admired for its smooth delivery and distinctive exhaust note. Although early examples suffered from reliability issues—particularly with cooling—these problems were long ago understood and rectified by specialists. As a result, the Stag has earned a devoted following, celebrated today for its timeless design, spirited character, and the unmistakable charm of open-top motoring.

We are delighted to offer this 1974 Triumph Stag Mk2, presented in classic Carmine Red with a bespoke black leather and tartan cloth interior. This desirable manual-overdrive example retains its original 3.0-litre Triumph V8 and has been the subject of extensive recent expenditure. The history file contains a substantial collection of invoices, primarily covering work carried out between 2019 and 2023, totaling well in excess of £17,500.

Mechanical work has been comprehensive. The car benefits from a reconditioned differential, reconditioned radiator, refurbished cam covers, new timing chains, refaced cylinder heads, and a Weber carburettor conversion. The braking system has been upgraded with new discs and pads, and the gearbox has been reconditioned with a new clutch fitted. The Stag now runs lovely and cool with great oil pressure, a reassuring testament to the quality of the work completed.

The exterior presents well, with older but well-preserved bodywork. Chrome trim remains bright, with only light patina in places, while the stainless-steel bumpers and sill covers are in good order. The car sits on a set of new Minilite-style wheels with quality tyres and a matching spare. It comes equipped with a fully reconditioned soft top, a hardtop in excellent condition.

Inside, the cabin is a real highlight. Reupholstered in 2020 at a cost of £4,300, the bespoke black leather and red-green tartan trim gives the car a distinctive, high-end feel. The attention to detail is evident throughout, extending to the door cards, dash, roll bar, steering cowl, and centre console, all retrimmed in matching black leather with new wood veneers. A new steering wheel, carpets, rubber seals, pedal rubbers, and sound deadening were also installed. For greater usability, a modern DAB/Bluetooth stereo has been fitted, and all four seats are equipped with seatbelts. The boot has been retrimmed and features a custom bag for the jack, completing a truly cohesive and well-executed interior.

Accompanying the car are the V5C registration document, a Heritage Certificate, a selection of old MOTs, two keys, and a substantial bundle of invoices.

This Stag’s interior treatment is superbly executed and perfectly complements the Carmine Red exterior. In person, the colour combination has a rich, understated presence that photographs struggle to capture. This is a car that has clearly received a great deal of care and investment over recent years, resulting in a distinctive and well-prepared Stag that would be admired at any show or classic event.
