This 1974 Triumph Stag was supplied by a well-regarded Triumph Stag specialist in 2022, when it underwent an extensive programme of recommissioning and improvement.
The history file contains MOT certificates dating back to 1986, when the recorded mileage was 32,305. These records show consistent but relatively light use through the late 1980s, 1990s and 2000s. By 2022, the car had covered just 48,977 miles, amounting to fewer than 17,000 miles over the preceding 36 years. It remains a notably original and honest example, making it well suited to sympathetic improvement rather than restoration. Following specialist preparation, it was sold in 2022 for £16,995.
The recommissioning work carried out that year was extensive and included new rear springs and shock absorbers, five new tyres, rear brake shoes and wheel cylinders, handbrake levers, rear driveshaft gaiters and a reconditioned water pump. Further mechanical work included new inlet manifold gaskets, a high-level header tank, thermostat, cam cover gaskets, carburettor diaphragms and breather pipes, a new alternator belt, power steering belt and a major service.
Additional attention was given to the car's presentation, with the installation of a new soft top, under-bonnet insulation pad, battery holder, front wing badges, door handle gaskets and mirrors.
Later in 2022, a further £8,000 was invested in the car. This included the installation of a desirable four-speed automatic gearbox conversion, costing approximately £4,500 fitted, together with significant engine work including reconditioned cylinder heads and replacement timing chains, tensioners and guides.
Since completion of this work, VNK 545M has seen limited use. The Triumph V8 runs smoothly and pulls well, while the four-speed automatic gearbox makes the car particularly relaxed and enjoyable to drive. Combined with the refreshed suspension and braking system, it feels well sorted on the road.
Since arriving with us at The Forge, this vehicle has benefited from over £5,000 of investment in preparation and refurbishment. Work carried out includes the fitment of new wheels and tyres, various cosmetic and bodywork enhancements, retrimming of the factory hardtop, a full service, a fresh MOT, and a professional machine polish and valet.
As part of our comprehensive preparation process, the chassis has been thoroughly cleaned, the underseal has been inspected and topped up where required, and a protective coating of Lanoguard has been applied to help preserve and protect the underside.
Cosmetically, VNK 545M presents well as a clean and tidy example. The paintwork is older but remains consistent, while the interior is smart and well kept. Supplied with both a relatively new soft top and its factory hardtop, it offers versatile year-round classic motoring.
Overall, this is a well-maintained and thoughtfully improved Triumph Stag that is ready to be enjoyed, while still offering scope for further refinement should the next owner wish.

As with virtually all classic cars of this period, minor oil seepage from seals and gaskets should be expected due to the vehicle’s age, together with the traditional engineering methods and materials used in its original manufacture. When not excessive, this is considered entirely normal for vehicles of this era and forms part of the character and ownership experience associated with traditional classic motoring.
