We’re delighted to offer this beautifully restored original right-hand-drive 1956 Triumph TR3 – a car that perfectly embodies the golden era of open-top British motoring.

Finished in a striking bright red and riding on its original-style steel wheels, this TR3, registration 968 UYM, comes complete with operational overdrive and a rich history. First registered in South Africa in 1956, it spent almost six decades cruising the coastal roads of the Cape before making its way to the UK in 2014, where its first British owner began a restoration to original factory specification.

Produced by the Standard-Triumph Motor Company from 1955 to 1957, the TR3 was the first British production car to feature front disc brakes as standard – a game-changing innovation in its day. Powered by a lively 1991cc four-cylinder engine producing around 100 bhp, paired with a four-speed gearbox with optional overdrive, the TR3 could top 100 mph and reach 60 mph from rest in just 10.8 seconds. Affordable, stylish, and quick, it became a sensation on both sides of the Atlantic, with particular success in the USA and a strong presence in Sports Car Club of America events.

On arrival in the UK, this example was completely stripped, restored, and rebuilt. The engine, gearbox, and overdrive were fully reconditioned, new brakes, fuel system, exhaust, and cooling components were fitted, and the interior was retrimmed in smart black with a matching new soft-top. The wheels were refurbished, fitted with new tyres, and finished to their original specification. Throughout the restoration, every part was sourced either as an original Standard-Triumph component or from a trusted marque specialist. The process is fully documented in the car’s history file, complete with photographs, and since completion the TR3 has covered very few miles, ensuring it remains in great overall condition.

The car has recently been serviced, freshly MOT’d and is ready to be enjoyed immediately. Every vehicle purchased from The Forge during this period is supplied with a three-month Autoguard Classic Car Warranty, an independent specialist inspection, and free UK delivery within 150 miles.

This TR3 is available to view now at The Forge, offering its next owner the purest form of classic British roadster driving – best experienced with the top stowed and the open road ahead.
