Our 1959 Austin-Healey Frogeye Sprite Gets Some TLC

Our recently arrived 1959 Austin-Healey Frogeye Sprite has been receiving a thorough check-over in The Forge workshop — and, as is often the case with classic cars, the inspection has uncovered a little work that needs attention.

The workshop team noticed that the starter motor was not engaging correctly with the engine’s ring gear. Further investigation revealed that the Lucas starter motor had failed, causing damage to the ring gear in the process.

To put things right, the team has removed the car’s 1275cc engine, allowing access to replace the damaged ring gear and fit a new starter motor.

With the engine now out of the car, the team also has the perfect opportunity to carry out a more detailed inspection and make any other necessary adjustments while everything is easily accessible. It’s all part of our approach to ensuring the cars we offer are properly checked and ready for their next owner.

We’re hoping to have the work completed over the coming days, after which the Frogeye will be back on the market and available for viewings and test drives.
