“She Said No!” – When Classic Car Dreams Hit the Wife Wall at The Forge

At The Forge, we see plenty of smiles, excitement, and the occasional heart-stealing moment when someone falls head-over-heels for a classic car. But sometimes, love stories come with a twist—usually involving the other half!

Recently, we had not one but two gentlemen who visited, test drove, and promptly fell for some gorgeous classics. Both were so smitten they put down a deposit to secure their dream car. All was looking great—until the very next day, when both called or emailed in what we can only describe as a “classic car plea” asking for their deposits back.

Why? Because their wives said no.

One gentleman was utterly charming (and desperate!) on the phone, explaining the heartbreaking situation. “She wants a kitchen,” he pleaded, “not an MGV V8!” We had to stifle a chuckle but totally felt his pain. Sometimes, a roaring engine just doesn’t compete with a shiny new oven.

Now, don’t get us wrong—we love a supportive partner, and it’s always best to have everyone on board before making a big purchase. But if you ever find yourself torn between a classic car and the kitchen upgrade battle… maybe just invite us over for a coffee and a chat instead.
