We’re delighted to welcome back to The Forge this exceptional 1967 MGB GT, a car we were proud to supply to a local customer in the summer of 2025. It now returns to us in part-exchange for a beautifully restored 1959 MGA Roadster, and we’re pleased to once again present it within our collection.

Originally restored between 2018 and 2022 by a dedicated MG enthusiast and engineer, this MGB GT is a clear example of craftsmanship carried out with both precision and passion. What sets this restoration apart is not simply the quality of the finish, but the meticulous approach taken throughout the process. The engineer responsible maintained detailed notes and hand-drawn diagrams, particularly relating to the electrical systems, and has diligently labelled all electrical components within the engine bay. It’s a rare and telling insight into the mindset behind the build—someone who approached the project with methodical care and pride. This is not a car restored to factory standard; it is, in many respects, better.

Since completion, the car has been maintained to a very high standard and benefits from a replacement Ivor Searle engine, fitted during the restoration and having covered fewer than 4,000 miles since installation.

The condition throughout is superb. The bodywork presents beautifully, complemented by an immaculate interior and excellent brightwork. The car is also particularly well specified, featuring chrome wire wheels, a desirable Webasto sunroof, and a detailed engine bay complete with a stainless steel exhaust system. It’s a striking and highly usable classic that is as rewarding to drive as it is to admire.

While the history file contains only limited documentation from its earlier years and the restoration itself, the quality of the workmanship is immediately apparent upon inspection. Quite simply, this is one of the finest examples we’ve had the pleasure of offering in recent times.

For additional peace of mind, the previous owner commissioned an independent inspection by the MG Owners’ Club workshop in Cambridge late last year, just 353 miles ago. The report was overwhelmingly positive, highlighting:

  • Alloy radiator and electric fan fitted

  • GAZ telescopic rear dampers

  • Polybush suspension upgrades

  • 5-speed gearbox conversion

  • Performance air filters

  • Strong structural condition (floors, sills, chassis all very good)

  • Good paintwork and overall mechanical performance

  • The car was also noted to drive very well during the road test, with no concerns regarding engine or exhaust performance.

As expected with any classic vehicle, a small number of minor observations were recorded. These include a slightly imperfect offside sill alignment, a missing small cover on the tailgate latch, and a previously noted sunroof trim issue—items that are either cosmetic or straightforward to address.

Overall, this is a truly impressive MGB GT that blends classic British charm with thoughtful upgrades and exceptional attention to detail. A beautifully restored and highly enjoyable example, ready for its next custodian.
