We are delighted to present this well-prepared 1972 Triumph TR6, finished in vibrant Mimosa Yellow with contrasting black trim — a colour that suits the sharp, purposeful lines of the TR6 beautifully.
This is a CP-series example, making it one of the more desirable higher-output 150bhp models produced for the European market. The car was manufactured on 18 June 1972 and originally supplied to Triumph dealer Lambs Limited of Woodford Green, London. Interestingly, it was not registered with the DVLA until 11 August 1975.
Clarification from the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust explains the apparent gap between the build date and its first UK registration. The car carries the registration AWK 649L, a Coventry H.D.E.S. (Home Delivery Export Service) prefix issued to vehicles supplied under the Personal Export Delivery (P.E.D.) scheme. This system allowed overseas buyers to take delivery in the UK and drive the car for a limited period before export. As such, the car received its ‘L’ suffix registration in 1972 when new, before later being re-registered in 1975 for permanent UK road use.
The accompanying British Motor Industry Heritage Certificate confirms the car’s original factory specification as Damson exterior paintwork with a black interior and hood. Factory features included overdrive, wire wheels, seatbelts and Dunlop SP tyres.
More recently, the car has been in the care of T.R. Bitz of Appleton, one of the most respected names in the Triumph community. Their preparation for sale last year included a comprehensive service and a significant amount of mechanical work. This included the installation of a new alloy fuel tank, Bosch fuel pump, six injectors, polybushed rear suspension arms, new brake and clutch master cylinders, new front brake calipers, fresh brake flexi hoses, four new tyres and a new carpet set. Their assessment concluded that both the body and chassis are in excellent condition and that the car “drives like a good TR6 should, with no rattles.”
The most recent owner has continued to invest in the car, noting that the suspension and steering have been rebuilt, the rear end polybushed and a new clutch fitted. The fuel system has been renewed throughout, including the metering unit, injectors and filters, while the braking system has been comprehensively overhauled with new calipers, servo and hoses.
Cosmetically and inside the car continues to impress. It features a mohair hood and matching cover, along with a full premium leather seat rebuild completed only a few months ago. The car also benefits from an earlier body-off restoration which has clearly stood the test of time. Under the bonnet, a range of alloy and stainless-steel components enhance both durability and presentation.
The documentation that accompanies the car is equally impressive. A substantial history file includes invoices spanning many years, previous sales listings, the original owner’s handbook and an invoice from April 2025 for £1,400 covering the interior re-trim.
Overall, this is a wonderfully sorted and highly presentable example of the sought-after CP-series TR6. With its striking Mimosa Yellow paintwork, refreshed interior and strong mechanical condition, it represents a complete package — ready to be enjoyed and admired wherever it goes.
