We are delighted to welcome this stunning 1971 MGB Roadster to The Forge, finished in elegant Midnight Blue with a black hood and matching black interior.
Wearing the private registration VKF 112 (originally KJW 274K), this MGB is a superb example of a classic that has been restored with care, integrity, and longevity in mind. Since undergoing a comprehensive bare-shell restoration in the mid-1990s, the car has covered just 34,000 miles, a testament to both the quality of the work and the conscientious ownership that followed.
The restoration was carried out by respected Derbyshire specialists A.R. Griffiths Classic Automobiles, who stripped the car back to a bare shell, shot-blasted it, and rebuilt it to an excellent standard using numerous brand-new panels. The shell was meticulously prepared and repainted before being reassembled with new trim, rubbers, chrome, and fully refurbished mechanical and electrical components.
A.R. Griffiths continued to maintain the car for many years after completion, and the extensive history file includes detailed invoices and some photographs documenting the restoration process from bare shell onwards.
In the decade following restoration, the MGB covered an impressive 30,000 miles, with meticulous servicing throughout. By 2014, it had travelled just over 33,000 miles since restoration, and in the nine years since has added only around 2,500 miles, supported by regular servicing and MOT testing.
Recent expenditure has ensured the car remains in excellent mechanical health. Within the last 1,000 miles, work has included new front brake discs and pads, rear brake shoes, braided brake hoses, clutch master and slave cylinders, wheel bearings, rear wheel cylinders, a new thermostat, hub seal, and upgraded silicone coolant hoses. In 2024, the most recent owner further invested in a new radiator and a brand-new set of chrome wire wheels fitted with high-quality Yokohama tyres.
On the road, this MGB is exactly as it should be: reliable, engaging, and confidence-inspiring. The engine is strong with excellent oil pressure, the four-speed gearbox with overdrive operates smoothly, and the car feels tight and composed, with assured handling and impressive braking.
Thanks to its high-quality restoration and diligent care, this MGB remains in superb condition some 30 years on. It presents beautifully, with an excellent bodyshell, a first-class underside, attractive paintwork, and superbly presented interior and engine bay. There is a lovely, well-aged character throughout that only comes from a car that has been properly used and cherished.
This is a truly gorgeous example of the MGB Roadster—one that has matured gracefully since restoration and offers a wonderfully rewarding open-top driving experience. All enquiries now welcome.
