The Forge is proud to present a truly outstanding 1963 MkII 3.8 Manual — comprehensively restored and re-engineered by renowned specialists Vicarage Jaguar to an uncompromising grand touring specification.

Originally acquired in 1987 by a Scottish owner and later restored over two years in Lancashire, the car spent more than two decades carefully preserved in dry storage before returning to the market. In 2013, a Berkshire enthusiast commissioned Vicarage to undertake a full bare-metal rebuild alongside extensive mechanical and usability upgrades.

The restoration transformed the car into a superbly engineered fast-road MkII, combining classic 1960s design with modern reliability. Finished in Metallic China Blue, the body was fully refinished and enhanced with subtle Coombs-style performance details, while the rebuilt 3.8-litre engine received numerous upgrades including electronic ignition, improved cooling, stainless exhaust and a desirable Broadsport Cosworth 5-speed gearbox for refined long-distance driving.

Handling and braking were also modernised with power-assisted rack steering, upgraded suspension, polybush components and enhanced Jaguar four-pot front brakes — creating a car that retains its period character but performs with far greater confidence on contemporary roads.

Inside, the cabin was completed to a bespoke luxury specification, featuring beautifully re-veneered burr walnut with Zebrano detailing, integrated air conditioning, upgraded audio/navigation, and numerous discreet comfort improvements.

After completion, the car was sold in 2017 to a US collector for £95,000 and continued to benefit from further investment. It later passed through respected dealer Classic Motor Cars before joining its most recent Shropshire owner in 2024.

The 3.8 manual is widely regarded as the most desirable MkII variant, and examples restored to this level — with documented Vicarage involvement and six-figure build investment — rarely become available.

This exceptional car represents a unique opportunity to acquire one of the best upgraded MkII grand tourers currently on the market.
