We’re delighted to announce the latest arrival at The Forge Prees — a truly exceptional Triumph TR5 PI that perfectly captures the spirit of classic European touring, now live on our website.
Built on 9th February 1968 and first supplied from Birmingham on 21st March the same year, this home-market example, originally registered MOK 129F, comes complete with its original ‘buff’ logbook and a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate, confirming its authenticity and provenance.
In the hands of its most recent custodians for nearly two decades, the TR5 has covered approximately 31,000 miles — not as a garage ornament, but as a car intended to be driven and enjoyed. It has toured extensively across Europe, visiting destinations including Croatia, Prague, The Netherlands and Paris. Along the way, it has taken part in organised continental tours and even competed in sections of regulated rallying, achieving class awards — a testament to both its capability and preparation.
One particularly memorable highlight saw the car attend the Le Mans Classic, where it completed a scenic lap of the famous circuit ahead of the race meeting — a fitting moment for such an iconic British sports car.
The car’s comprehensive history file reflects careful and consistent maintenance throughout its life, ensuring it was always ready for the next journey. Prior to its current ownership, it underwent a meticulous body-off restoration by renowned Triumph specialists TRGB Ltd. Photographic records detail every stage of the rebuild, from a bare-metal bodyshell to a fully dismantled engine.
During this restoration, the car was subtly upgraded to enhance reliability and usability for long-distance touring. Improvements include an alloy sump, unleaded cylinder head, upgraded driveshafts, a high-flow Bosch fuel pump, modern starter motor, overdrive logic system and a strengthened chassis. Both the differential and gearbox were also comprehensively rebuilt.
The result is a TR5 that delivers an outstanding driving experience — responsive, powerful and perfectly suited to extended continental journeys — combining the integrity of a high-quality rebuild with the proven reliability of a well-used and refined touring car.
Today, the car continues to present beautifully. The Signal Red paintwork retains a deep, lustrous finish, complemented by bright chromework and a structurally excellent chassis and bodyshell. Inside, the cabin is inviting and well preserved, while the engine bay is clean and detailed. Completing the look are the classic wire wheels and well-fitted hood, giving the car a purposeful yet elegant presence.
This is a superb example of the Triumph TR5 PI — thoughtfully restored, intelligently upgraded and, most importantly, properly enjoyed. It stands ready to offer its next owner reliable and exhilarating classic motoring, with the credentials to embark on a European adventure at a moment’s notice.
