In the Spotlight: 1964 Triumph Spitfire 4 MKI

Among the cars currently available at The Forge is this charming early Triumph Spitfire 4 MKI, an honest and well cared for example of one of Britain's best-loved sports cars. 

Built in May 1964 and supplied new by Herts Motors of St Albans, this right-hand drive home market car is accompanied by its British Motor Industry Heritage Certificate, confirming its origins and original specification. 

The Spitfire has clearly been enjoyed throughout its life. It spent the last decade with owners in Shropshire who regularly used it for local events and touring, and is believed to have undergone a sympathetic restoration around 15 years ago. During that work it was refinished in its attractive deep bottle green and treated to a refreshed interior, along with a number of sensible mechanical improvements. 

Today it presents as an older restoration that has settled in nicely. The paintwork retains a good shine, the brightwork carries a little age-related patina, and the interior reflects a car that has been driven and appreciated rather than stored away. Underneath it remains solid and tidy, while on the road it offers the simple, engaging driving experience that made the early Spitfire such a success. 

It's an appealing example that balances originality, usability and character, making it equally suited to weekend drives, local shows or simply enjoying the open road.
