There are some cars that arrive at The Forge with a story already woven into their metal, and this beautiful 1964 Triumph Spitfire 4 Mk I is certainly one of them.

Finished in striking Signal Red with black Ambla upholstery and complemented by a matching red factory hard top, this rare right-hand-drive UK home-market example was first registered on 10 April 1964 in Dundee. Built by the Triumph Motor Company at the height of Britain’s golden age of sports cars, the Spitfire soon made its way south and spent much of its early life around London, where it would no doubt have cut a distinctive figure on the capital’s roads.

Like many classics, time eventually caught up with it and the car was laid up for a number of years. Fortunately, its story did not end there.

Rescued from hibernation, the Spitfire was later treated to a comprehensive nut-and-bolt restoration carried out to a very high standard, with no expense spared. Every component was carefully restored or renewed as part of a meticulous rebuild that later formed part of the noted collection of Anthony Hamilton — father of seven-time Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton. The restoration was completed in 2020, returning the car to the road in exceptional condition.

Accompanying the Spitfire is a superb hardback book documenting the entire restoration process in detailed photographs — a wonderful record of the craftsmanship involved in bringing the car back to life.

Since its restoration, the Spitfire has covered just 650 miles and presents exactly as one would expect from such a careful rebuild. It runs and drives beautifully and remains in outstanding condition throughout.

Further details will follow in the coming days as we prepare the car for sale, and early enquiries are warmly welcomed.
