When the MGC Took a Break

Today we took our newly arrived 1968 MGC Roadster out on its first proper test run as we begin preparations to bring it to market. The route is one we know well, a mix of country lanes and open roads that always lets us get a real feel for a car.

At first, the MGC was everything you’d hope for — smooth, powerful, and full of character. But, about four miles from The Forge, the unexpected happened: we lost power and had to pull over.

What happened next really took me by surprise. Within minutes, several people stopped — not just to offer help, but to have a chat about the car. One gentleman pulled up in a modern MG and jokingly declared that the “new MG had arrived to rescue the old MG!” It was a brilliant reminder of how much affection there still is for classics like the MGC, and just how strong the sense of community is around them.

So, if you were one of the kind people who stopped today — thank you. It was a moment that perfectly summed up the spirit of classic motoring.

The MGC is now safely back at The Forge, and we’ll soon begin diagnosing what caused the hiccup. Such are the joys (and the stories) that come with classic car ownership. And honestly, I can’t help but think — if I’d broken down in a modern BMW, I doubt half as many people would have stopped to help!
