Few MGC GTs have been developed with the care, sympathy and long-term vision shown by this stunning 1969 example. Refined over a 17-year period of dedicated ownership, this genuine UK-market, right-hand-drive car is most notable for its desirable triple SU HS6 Downton-style conversion, and was proudly featured in MG Enthusiast Magazine (January 2020).

Built in June 1968 and supplied new by University Motors, London, the car left the factory in Tartan Red with a black interior piped in red. Factory options included overdrive on 3rd and 4th gears, 72-spoke competition wire wheels, heater and SP radial tyres. First registered in North West London in September 1969 as CHV 242H, it still retains its original registration today. A period full-length Webasto sunroof was fitted early in its life and remains a defining feature.

During the mid-1980s, restoration work by The Engine Tuner of Basildon saw the introduction of triple carburettors. From 2002 onward, long-term owner Keith Preston continued to carefully enhance the car with a focus on performance and drivability. Key upgrades include a Downton-style six-branch exhaust manifold, triple SU HS6 carburettors with K&N filters, upgraded ignition, lightened flywheel, refurbished cylinder head, improved suspension with Spax adjustable dampers, Superflex bushes, an adjustable anti-roll bar and a quicker steering rack.

Recently acquired from a knowledgeable Shropshire enthusiast, the car presents beautifully today. The paintwork is in excellent order, brightwork shows an attractive light patina, and it now sits on freshly chrome powder-coated 16" competition wire wheels with new Pirelli Cinturato tyres. Inside, the cabin has been sensitively refreshed with new MGOC black leather reclining seats piped in red, new carpets, a Moto-Lita wood-rim steering wheel, and a discreet Bluetooth audio system, while much of the original trim remains intact.

Mechanically, the car has been recently serviced, MOT’d and tuned by Aidon Automotive. On the road it delivers strong, smooth performance, excellent oil pressure, crisp gear changes and instant overdrive engagement—firm, stable and confidence-inspiring, exactly as a properly developed MGC GT should be.
