The Forge Prees has just welcomed an outstanding new arrival to its classic car collection — a 1974 MGB Roadster MkIII, powered by a 1950cc Oselli Stage 2 engine. Finished in elegant Damask Red, this extensively upgraded and beautifully maintained example offers one of the finest driving experiences in its class.
Originally restored and upgraded by an MG Owners' Club member, this MGB has been treated to over £18,000 of carefully considered improvements across two ownerships. The heart of the car is its lightened and balanced 1950cc Oselli Stage 2 engine with HIF carburettors, installed in 2009. Since then, it has covered just over 10,000 miles and remains in superb mechanical health.
Between 2009 and 2010, around £10,000 was invested in the car, including the Oselli engine upgrade, a high-torque starter, alternator, a full-body respray, walnut dashboard, new door cards, and a fresh hood. A second wave of investment came after a change of ownership in 2016, with over £8,000 spent on further enhancements to handling, comfort, and reliability.
Handling upgrades include GAZ adjustable shocks all round, new parabolic rear springs, a rear Panhard rod, an uprated front anti-roll bar and drop link kit, and a full braking system overhaul with new calipers, servo, discs, and pads. The car also features 123 electronic ignition, a 12-volt battery conversion, a stainless-steel exhaust system with extractor manifold, and a full wire wheel conversion complete with new stub axles and bearings.
Mechanically, this MGB is on top form with a smooth gearbox, a fully functioning overdrive, and a tight, responsive chassis that rewards spirited driving or relaxed touring. A brand-new convertible hood was fitted in April 2025, and a Kenwood head unit adds a subtle modern touch to the period-correct interior.
The car's bodywork remains solid, with a very clean underside and straight panels. The Damask Red finish has mellowed beautifully, with only minor age-related marks. Chrome fittings and the wire wheels remain in excellent condition, adding to the car’s curb appeal.
Accompanied by a substantial history file, including 18 MOT certificates, a British Motor Industry Heritage Certificate, the original owner’s manual, numerous invoices, and hand-written maintenance notes, this car’s provenance and care are clear to see. Its MOT mileage history shows careful seasonal use and consistent maintenance.
The MGB has just been freshly serviced by The Forge Prees and will be supplied with a new MOT, a full professional valet, a three-month warranty, and free UK mainland delivery. With a specification and history that would be costly to replicate today, this car represents an exciting opportunity for any classic car enthusiast looking for a well-prepared, performance-enhanced British icon.
